For the past 7 years, I’ve had the joy of being part of an incredible Cub Scout Pack with my two kids. During this time, we’ve been lucky to have one of the most organized and thoughtful leaders imaginable. I’ve watched firsthand as he’s turned every camping trip, event, and activity into a well-oiled machine, ensuring that all of us—parents and scouts alike—are not only prepared but also excited and confident. Why reinvent the wheel when we’ve got access to such a brilliant resource? I hope to share his strategies with other scouting families who might feel like their unit could use a little boost in the organization department. Trust me, just use his brain—it works wonders! Here’s an example of one of the emails he sends out before every camping trip to make sure everyone is encouraged and equipped for success.

John Alford, I appreciate you to the summit and back. Thank you for all that you do for our Pack, Troop, Counsel and District. You are a blessing and a lesson for everyone you come across.

This is fantastic! I remember the challenge at getting info out to Cubs’ parents.

Emails are great but since not everyone checks it regularly, we found using apps like Slack, GroupMe, or Band App helps to bridge the gap. My #1 fave is slack because you can send files and pictures, followed by GroupMe, Band is very similar to GroupMe but I just can’t seem to fully embrace it. I say try them out and see what works for the group but it takes 2yrs to really incorporate and get a good feel for any app.
