Every scouting event, from meetings to camping trips, is made possible by countless volunteers—many of whom give their time while also serving our communities in other powerful ways. I am especially proud to know that many of the Scout Dads I work with are also first responders—firefighters, police officers, paramedics—heroes in every sense of the word.
On this day of remembrance, 9/11, it’s important to honor the spirit of service that lies at the heart of scouting and our communities. These dedicated individuals not only protect us in times of crisis but also invest in the future by helping to guide and mentor our children.
Their commitment, both as first responders and volunteers, reminds us of the incredible strength it takes to support the next generation while carrying the weight of their daily responsibilities. Scouting is more than just an organization—it’s a community built on selflessness, courage, and dedication, qualities exemplified by those who serve as first responders.
Let’s take a moment today to reflect on the sacrifices these men and women make, not just on the job, but within our scouting world. The time, effort, and love they pour into our kids help create resilient, responsible, and kind young men and women. Scouting would not be the same without them.
To all the first responders who wear both the uniform of service and the role of Scout volunteer—thank you for your unwavering dedication. You are true heroes in every sense, and we are forever grateful for your commitment.
