As a mom, watching my daughter thrive in Cub Scouts has been an incredible journey. When scouting opened its doors to girls, I knew it was an opportunity too valuable to pass up. Cub Scouts has always been a program that fosters independence, leadership, and teamwork—and now, my daughter gets to experience that same growth, alongside her brother.
The transition from a boys-only program to co-ed has been a seamless one. Seeing her proudly earn her loops, engage in hands-on activities, and participate in adventures traditionally reserved for boys is empowering. For her, it’s not just about learning outdoor skills, but also about breaking barriers and showing that girls belong in every space where challenges are met and friendships are forged.
For me, as a single mom, Cub Scouts provides a community that helps support her growth. It’s a place where I don’t have to carry the weight alone. She’s surrounded by leaders, mentors, and other scouts who cheer her on, and that gives me a sense of reassurance. Scouting is giving her the chance to become more confident and capable—and I couldn’t be prouder of how this program has evolved to include young women like her.
So, to all the moms out there, especially single moms—if your daughter is curious, adventurous, and ready to take on the world, Cub Scouts is the perfect place to help her shine!
